howdy-ho friends, and welcome to the third installment of TMS. as you all can see, i haven't really been posting much else in the other forums, so this is pretty much my last major tie here at the forums. however, i plan to keep these up until i either a.) run out of music or b.) don't feel like it anymore. as long as i've got my one fan, i'm not quittin. anyways, enough about me, and onto other things.
how was everyone's halloween? mine was pretty good actually. i was a demon in a play they had at my church and it went really good. although, i did do a little trick or treating along the way since i ride my bike there, this did get a little interesting. for my part as a demon, i had to be completely covered in black dress from head to toe, so you can kinda imagine what i looked like. now add a cheesey orange zorro mask from burger king and an orange hat to that and that's how i went out. anywho, long story short, some mexican family thought i was some sort of robber/killer. even the kids were screaming. needless to say, i got my butt outta there and felt really bad. all i wanted was some candy....
do-do do-do do-do do-do do-do do
in case you don't know, that's the beginning of the Doug theme song.
as promised, i would go with a mainstream band that people would know and could possibly relate to. well, this week, i decided to kick it down a notch and go with a band whose former front man has been in the news quite a bit recently. i'm talkin aboot no other than stone temple pilots "core".

what kinda music do they play again?
on this album, these guys were definitely in on the alternative/grunge thing goin on in the early 90's. this album is a little more on the heavy grunge side. it's almost hard to define.
why should i like this album?
cuz everyone knows that stp are amazing and it's hard to deny that fact. what? i'm serious. despite his drug problems, scott weiland is an amazing vocalist, and though his style won't fit most, he was definitely made for stp and stp for him.
random fact about past TMS artists
i recently read over at www.punkreviews.com that flight 180 played their officially last show this past week. they went out with 3 albums to their name and i'd like to wish em the best in all they do musically and non-musically. and yes, i'm aware they don't actually post or read here.
so....what's their dilly yo?
from what i know, stp are now defunct. scott has gone on to velvet revolver (site currently under reconstruction) with the former non-axl members of guns n' roses. as for the other members, i haven't heard of them doing anything else musically and it's a darn shame cuz they've got the talent to keep goin. despite thier breakup, though, they have recently just release a greatest hits album with the only 2 tracks that weren't released on other albums being "all in the suit that you wear", which is probably on a soundtrack somewhere, and an acoustic version of plush. if you don't have all the albums like i do, it's a good idea to get this album.
silly rabbit, trix are for eds!
here's where i do my top five:
1. sex type thing - very catchy guitar riff for a really good song. it's a little dirty and it almost sounds to me like he wants to rape someone. of course, it's not about that, but still. very sexually explicit.
2. wicked garden - it sounds to me like scott was a christian at one time. the wicked garden is the evil that dwells inside of us and it needs to be 'burned down' (as it's put in the song)
3. naked sunday - he's questioning his faith here but scott doesn't just say it that way. it's very poetic i guess.
4. plush - the lyrics make no sense. i've looked into em time and time again and all i get is a headache, but it's the catchiest song on the album, so go figure.
5. wet my bed - on the whole album, this is the one twister. it's nothing like the rest of the album. in fact, it's nothing like anything else they released after this album either. it's just a little "coffee house poetry" kinda song....if ya wanna call it a song.

that's it for this version of tms. i kinda lost some creativity on this one, but i'll try and pick it up again. just so everyone know, each column i write is written in one sitting and i'm kinda brain dead right now. in fact, after i post this, i'm gonna go give it some cpr in an attempt to live again. i hope you still enjoy this column as it was written for you. and most of all, i hope the music takes you away to another place. a place of enjoyment. a place of peacefulness. a place....kinda like your car. buy it, pop it in, and let the music do the rest. until next time....
