The turning point from my perspective was the horse collar rule. Here is a tackling technique that has obviously been standard practice since the days of Red Grange, and the NFL outlaws it because.............awwww, Terrell Owens got hurt. Poor baby.

The truly disturbing thing is how quickly College and High School followed the NFL's lead with their own versions of the rule. Even the fucking CFL had it 2 years later.

So yeah, not only is the NFL risking its own empire, they're really threatening to drag the entire sport down with it.
